Our Sustainability Promise
At Holiday Inn Darlington, we recognise the influence and impact that our business has on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to sustainability and to minimising our environmental footprint, while enhancing the wellbeing of our guests, employees and local communities. We are supported in this journey by our sustainability accreditation partner, Green Tourism.

Supporting Our Community
We are dedicated to supporting our local community and sustainability initiatives. We regularly donate raffle prizes to local schools, community groups, and charities, helping to fund vital projects. In addition, we have donated furniture to local organisations and allotment committees to support community development.
We have participated in wider Cairn Group efforts, we have contributed to local food banks, such as Newcastle West End Food Bank & supported Building Futures East, reinforcing our commitment to social responsibility and environmental sustainability. We have also volunteered to help clear weeds from the pond that is onsite. This both helps the centre in terms of holding activities on the pond and for wildlife to be able to diversify and thrive.

Environmental Initiatives
We are committed to sustainability and responsible resource management. We regularly monitor and upload energy usage data to the IHG website, ensuring transparency and progress towards energy reduction goals. To promote eco-friendly transport, we offer a cycle-to-work scheme for staff and have installed electric vehicle charging points in our car park.
Additionally, we actively monitor food waste and collaborate with Too Good To Go to minimise food wastage. Our car park management policy includes a dedicated risk assessment for adverse weather conditions, ensuring guest and staff safety year-round.

Our Team
We are committed to creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace for all team members. Our staff play an active role in minimising our environmental impact, with regular sustainability training and the support of an on-site Sustainability Champion. We closely monitor business and staff travel, encouraging public transport and car-sharing wherever possible to reduce emissions.
To further our commitment to sustainability, we have incorporated EV vehicles into our operations. Additionally, we track energy and activity targets, reporting progress monthly to our head office, ensuring continuous improvement in our environmental initiatives.

Guest Support
Our guests play a critical role in promoting sustainability in our hotel. By making conscious choices during their stay, such as reducing energy and water usage, properly disposing of waste, and using eco-friendly products, guests can help minimise the environmental impact of their stay.
We provide details on local public transport, including bus and train routes, on our website to make getting around easy and eco-friendly. Guests can also access a local walking guide for exploring the area.
Our recycling policy is available via a QR code, and we encourage sustainability with signage in all bedrooms promoting towel reuse.

Your Feedback
We value guest feedback and input in driving innovative ideas to reduce the environmental impact of our hotel. We encourage our guests to send feedback to each venue, sharing their ideas and suggestions for reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable practices. By working together with our guests, we can continue to build a sustainability program that provides guests with the flexibility and freedom to stay in a way that aligns with their values and preferences, while also contributing to a more sustainable future.
